The First Step

Stepping in faith

Walking in faith is one of the biggest keys in our Christian life. (Just look at Hebrews 11)

We can get stuck in just reading the Bible and praying for the sake of it, without any real action happening. We need to create space for God to move through us. So many people wait for God to do something, then complain when nothing is happening in their lives. God doesn’t do everything for us while we sit in the comforts of our life. God wants to stretch our capacity; for us to show Him that we trust in Him. Time after time, we often are needed to take the first step in whatever God has planned for us. We need to take the first step because it is a sign of faith. An active response in showing how much we trust God.

Hebrews 11:1 – Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.

Abraham left his country on faith

Noah had to build an Ark

Moses had to put his staff in the sea before it was parted

Joshua walked around the walls of Jericho

David stepped in to face Goliath

Jesus had to spit in dirt and put the mud over the blind man’s eyes

Peter stepped out of the boat

All these examples show people having to take a step of faith before the bigger picture was revealed and God never failed them.

Taking the first step can be saying yes to an opportunity no matter how scary it is, can be the extending of the hands to pray for someone, can be following God’s specific instruction given to you; no matter how crazy it seems. When we surrender and hand over our situations to God, we often need to take the first step before God does the rest. It is because we are working in an active partnership with God. We cannot do His part, and He won’t do ours. The reason God wants us to take the first step is because when we take a step of faith and trust God; we end up building our faith, our trust. Stretching our capacity for God to do greater things in the midst of our lives.

So before you throw your arms up in the air and wonder where God is in your life; seek Him and listen if he wants you to take a step of faith in your life.

Our focus needs to be on the process and God will focus on the outcome. We build ourselves through prayer, fellowship and God’s word; while taking action in faith and God will take care of the rest.

Where do you need to take the first step in your life?

“Faith is taking the first step even when you can’t see the whole staircase.” – Martin Luther King Jr
