REALationship with God

You often hear the question: “Do you have a relationship with God”

That thought can become quite repetitive or a bit of a cliché. I wanted to explore what people actually mean when they ask that question so we can remind ourselves who we are in God or even expand the depth of our relationship with God.

Above all, being a Christian/disciple of God means discovering God and entering into a relationship with Him. God is the Father, the friend, the comforter, the guide, and the Saviour. He brings security, love, hope, grace and mercy into a life full of chaos, craziness and struggles.

Romans 8:28 – “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.”

When you enter a relationship with God, you enter into the dynamics of a natural relationship – One of love, hurt; triumph, suffering; joy and pain (Although God is never the source of that pain). However, the difference to a natural relationship is that we know God is the one who ultimately brings restoration, extends Grace, and delivers the greatest love we’ve ever known and ever will. It gives us to courage to know that God has it all under control and we can trust in Him.

Romans 15:13 – “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.”

It is because of that difference that allows us to turn to God in the middle of pain, hardship, anger and suffering. Lately I’ve been the stubborn son who has struggled to understand the hits that I’ve absorbed lately. However, feeling like this has allowed me to see the beauty of my relationship with God (He always wins!). This is what makes my relationship with God real.

1 Peter 5:10 – “And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.”

This concept is what sets apart Christianity; this is what makes being a disciple a real deal. This is what makes being a child of God the most incredible decision you can make in your life.

Ask yourself (since it’s always between you and God) – “Am I really in a relationship with God?”

When you make the leap from being a mere Christian attending church because it is your choice of religion to a disciple entering a REALationship with God and discovering the intimacy and power that follows; your life will radically change for the better. That is where we want to be with God. Truly discovering God allows us to truly discover ourselves.
